David Gilliland Racing (DGR) is a race team based in Mooresville, N.C. In 2017, DGR was founded by race-winning and former Cup Series driver David Gilliland. Initially, the team was based out of a facility located on Gilliland’s personal property. As the team has grown from its humble beginnings, the organization now occupies 60,000 square feet of space in the mecca of stock car racing. The team competes in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS), ARCA Menards Series and CARS Tour.
In 2021, veteran National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) racer and successful businessman, Johnny Gray became team co-owner of the race-winning organization. The former NHRA Funny Car and Pro Stock driver is from Artesia, N.M.
David Gilliland, retired NASCAR Cup Series driver and co-owner of David Gilliland Racing, has been involved in racing his whole life. The Riverside, Calif., native is the son of former Cup and Winston West driver Butch Gilliland. With over 400 National Series starts under his belt, David has the experience and knowledge to help propel young, aspiring drivers to the next level. Gilliland has always been passionate about helping young drivers and giving them the opportunity to excel, which was the catalyst to owning his own NASCAR team. His ownership in DGR gives David the platform and resources to make this all possible.
Veteran sportsman and professional drag racer Johnny Gray partnered with David Gilliland in 2021 to form DGR. Gray, a successful titan in the petroleum industry, competed in various forms of motorsport for nearly half a century. The Artesia, New Mexico native retired from National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) competition in 2013 to support the racing efforts of his grandsons, Tanner and Taylor Gray.
